Motorcycle Clubs
If you know of a club that you would like adding, please email me with the details.
What does it mean to belong to a Motorcycle Owners Club?a) The Branch member who wants to be involved with others at a local level and get together for rides, social events and the occasional weekend.
b) The National member. This can be split down into sub categories
- The Restorer. Someone who enjoys rebuilding the bikes and wants to belong to a club that relates to their hobby.
- The Rider. Someone who enjoys the occasional ride on their beloved bike and may even feel that they want to join in on the odd annual event.
- The Owner. Someone who owns a BSA and wants to belong to the club that identifies with their passion.
- The Collector. Someone who just loves the bikes and can not resist buying another one to add to those in the shed.
- The Nostalgic. Looking back with rose tinted glasses on an object of their youth, which does not compare to modern technology, but raises passions and emotions unknown by our current manufacturing base.
A mixed and intolerant bunch, with each group wanting the others to accept their point of view while not wanting to relate to the others. We make comments that suit our own needs, while offending other groups. 'Ride them, don't hide them', 'Jap crap', 'Camping fanatics', 'None active members', 'Hangers on', 'Beer guzzlers', 'Family first'
What a shame that we who all love the same thing, can not see the others point of view.
For a club to survive and be fruitful, it must meet all of the above needs. It must find tolerance and acceptance of the various groups. Like a body, we are made up of many parts, and like a body, we depend upon them all. A club would be so much less if it did not comprise of such a variety of members. Members who have different needs and expectations.
Club members should seek to meet the needs of each group and encourage tolerance of each group. Understand that we can all get out of the club the bit that we need, without persecuting or castigating the others. We can all contribute to the club, whether it is actively or passively, after all the club would cease to exist if you took away the members who run the club or the members who are a part of the club.
Not all want to camp. Not all want to ride. Not all want to officiate. Not all want to restore. Not all want to show. Not all will want to neglect their family commitments. But all want to enjoy their motorcycle. So meet this need and we will all be satisfied.
