Honda
CD175 - K3 The
Honda CD175 was my first experience of a twin and proved to be a good commuting
bike. A lack-lustre bike which did the job, was similar to the sporting CB250
but did not have styling. Simple all alloy engine with a single carb, which added to it's simplicity
and reliability.

This was a work horse with it's deep valanced mudguards, fully enclosed drive
chain and enclosed nacelle and fork shrouds had no pretensions of being a
sports bike. A very popular model because it fitted the commuting role so well
and yet sadly today it is so un-recognised or restored. The engine of this
model was a near vertical twin cylinder with single chain driven overhead
camshaft with single carburettor and electric starter. The single leading
shoe front brake was adequate for it's role. The speedometer housed in a
plastic nacelle was rounded in a D-shape and contained the basic indicators lights. The exhaust was made up of
pressed steel sections which were welded together giving flanges and seams at top and bottom, a cosmetic disaster. No tachometer on this model,
just a speedo. The styling was very boxy even for the
Japanese, in comparison to the CB175 which had curved lines. Despite all of this, it will remain a
memorable bike for many, who will have found it a remarkable work-horse.

Conclusion
An excellent commuting bike, but would never
turn a head in a month of Sundays. Well loved and reliable work-horse.
