Nimbus
Denmark, 1920 - 1957, was the leading Danish manufacturer of motorcycles created by Fisker
& Nielsen in Copenhagen who concentrated on one model, a 746cc in-line four
mounted in a pressed steel chassis using shaft drive. The telescopic front fork
was invented by F&N and the Nimbus Model C was the first bike in history
that was equipped with one although it was initially un-damped. A total of
12.000 machines were built, known affectionately as the 'The Bumblebee' for its
cosy but rather discrete rumbling and humming engine sound. Later models were updated to
OHC and unit construction. The gearbox tended to be very noisy when changing gear, but they could
stand it. The main disadvantage by the machine was cylinder no. 3, that used to
become too hot.
